The Safest Pet Surgery Measures from Start to Finish
Regardless of the type of surgery, your pet will be fully monitored and cared for by our skilled team from start to finish. Our safety precautions begin with full pre-anesthetic bloodwork and an exam to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. We then tailor the anesthetic protocol to meet your pet’s exact needs. Your pet is also set up with an IV catheter to receive fluids throughout the procedure that keep them hydrated and regulate their blood pressure. The catheter also allows us to administer any drugs quickly should the need arise. Additionally, we wrap pets in warm blankets to keep them comfortable and regulate their body temperature.
Our monitoring equipment also keeps an eye on all their vitals including heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, body temperature, respiratory rate, blood-oxygen levels, and more. Your dog and cat’s safety is our priority.
At-Home Care After the Procedure
After any pet surgery, your pet will need some time to rest and recuperate from their procedure. We provide pain medication before and after surgery, and we will provide you with medication to keep them comfortable while they recover. It is important to allow your pet a full 24 hours as the anesthesia wears off—they may have little to no appetite and be lethargic and inactive during this time. Once they are feeling a bit more energetic, it is crucial to keep them from any extensive activity as too much running, jumping, or playing with other pets could damage their surgical wound and slow healing.
